a tough day that ended with lots of laughs..

Wow, what a day it was yesterday. Super tough day at work, it just felt like no matter how hard I tried my wheels just kept spinning and I didn't get anywhere. We are getting ready to receive 12 new companies worth of releases which means making room and getting the store ready.
The idea is that we'll have a section cleared so that the product can be received and then seamlessly integrated into the existing merchandise. Of course, that's in a perfect world. In our real world, it works like this: You want new company x to go into spot a. spot a is currently occupied by company y. Company y can move to spot b, but spot b is occupied by company z. we can move company z into spot c but company c is ..... you see where I'm going with this? Its like one of those square puzzles with the sliding pieces? except we don't have the empty space that makes the puzzle work!

It doesn't seem to matter how far in advance we plan or how hard Gloria (my amazing head merchandiser) works...the day still ends with at least one company's worth of product stuffed in a shopping basket under the back table till "we can figure out what to do with it later".
Ahhh... add to that the syndrome of I have time to do 30 things, but I have 40 on my to do list. I had planned my day around an errands trip away from the store, figuring I could do paperwork and so on around the store till about one and then head out to drop off photocopying, do the banking, pick up some supplies, go to the post office etc. It was well after 3 by the time I left the store ... which meant some errands had to be rescheduled for another day...again! By the time I got home, I was a frazzled mess. I had exactly time to run in the house, brush my teeth (with my coat on still) and that was it...out the door and headed south to meet Dean and Selena (from here on referred to as Dan and Ashley....) at the comedy cave for a couple's night out and some laughs. I tell you, I sure needed some laughs!!
What an odd scene we arrived to... at first we were the only table of customers there. it was dark and quiet and it felt more like a funeral parlor than a comedy club. We were handed a greasy laminated menu and decided to take our chances with a treat of burgers and sweet potato fries. I ordered my usual Caesar and sat back to enjoy our company, letting the tension of the day wash away with every not so small "sip" of clam and vodka.  Well, I didn't know what to expect but the burgers were so good...hot and juicy and loaded with fixin's and the fries were super crispy and salty. Delish. No sooner did we finish eating than two more tables of people arrived and the show was set to begin. Only three tables?? What have we gotten ourselves into?? The opening act was okay...I can't remember his name... Alex something I think. He was definitely not seasoned and his timing was a bit off but he did a bit about couples (as they all do) and how the women set up friendships and since we were there because Selena and I decided that our men would be friends, we all laughed until tears nearly ran down our legs. And then came the headliner.....and  let me just say...FUNNIEST COMIC EVER! I haven't laughed that hard in ages. His name was Bengt Washburn and he was funnier than anyone I've ever seen on TV!

All in all a good night, and I'm so so glad we went. Now to get through Big Stock Day (yes, its so big it gets capital letters), then Make and Take day (aka Angela's socializing day) and then its off to Glendale for a relaxing weekend of scrapbooking and more socializing!! Oh and of course, Sunday brunch and another day hanging out with Dan and Ashley...not so bad after all, right?
